What to Expect: Partner Visa Process
Step 1: We will assess your eligibility
We begin by assessing which subclass is appropriate for you. There are different subclasses depending on whether you are on onshore (subclass 820/801) or offshore (subclass 309/100) applicant.
Step 2: Gather Documents
We will obtain documentation from you to demonstrate that you meet the 4 key requirements that show you and your partner are in a genuine and ongoing relationship with each other.
This includes:
- Financial documents showing that you share your responsibilities and expenses.
- Household evidence to show that you are living together, this can be a lease agreement or utility bill.
- Proof to show that you are a couple in a social gathering. This can include photographs of events or statements from your friends and family.
- Joint commitment to each other in the form of your future plans together.
Step 3: Visa Application
We prepare and lodge your application and ensure that it is well-prepared to avoid delays and increase your chances of an approval.
Step 4: Visa Outcome
We monitor the progress of your application and respond to any additional requests from the Department.
Once a decision has been made, we notify you of the outcome.
Step 5. Permanent Residence Pathway
Partner visas are granted in a two-stage process; temporary and permanent visa.
Once approved, you will hold a temporary visa for two years and become eligible for permanent residency.
